Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Game at Worcester State, 13-10

WORCESTER, Mass. - April 19, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-10 decision at Worcester State on Wednesday evening. 

The Chargers fall to 9-4 and will resume conference action on Saturday with a home contest against Castleton. The Lancers improved to 5-8. 

Junior Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) led Colby-Sawyer with four goals and two assists. She moved into sixth all-time in career goals with 134 and career points with 156. Sophomore Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) and junior Carli Chiodo (Madbury, N.H.) added two goals apiece.

Worcester State was led by junior Mackenzie Little's (Marlboro, Mass.) seven goals. She added six ground balls and four draws. Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, Mass.) collected five points on three goals and two assists. 
 
The Lancers jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of play on goals from Vecchiarelli and Little. Colby-Sawyer responded with four straight goals from Chiodo, Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.), Lavigne, and Shae-Lyn Walker (Newington, N.H.) to take a 4-2 lead. Worcester State closed the half with two goals of their own as Sutherland made one and assisted another from Little to knot the score at 4-4.
 
Worcester State began the second half with a 5-0 run to advance the score to 9-4. The Chargers closed the gap with goals from Ireland and Lavigne in a span of less than a minute. The teams then traded the next four goals before the Lancers pushed its advantage back to five (13-8) after a pair of goals from Little. The Chargers ended the game with tallies from Chiodo and Lavigne, but the home team came away with the 13-10.
 
Krissy Pessa (Walpole, Mass.) earned the win in goal as she turned away 4-of-14 shots on net. Colby-Sawyer's Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) suffered the loss in 37:18 minutes played. She finished with eight saves, while Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) saw 22:42 minutes in goal and stopped four shots.
