Chargers Win Game One 4-3 at Lyndon; Game Two Suspended

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - April 19, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team defeated Lyndon, 4-3, in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader. Game two was suspended in the top of the sixth inning, due to rain, with Lyndon holding a 3-2 lead. 

Game two will be resumed tomorrow at 12:30 in New London, N.H. prior to the start of the regularly scheduled doubleheader with the Hornets. 

The Chargers improve to 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the NAC. Lyndon drops to 13-8 overall and 6-3 in the conference. 

GAME ONE - Colby-Sawyer 4, Lyndon 3

The first three innings were scoreless before Lyndon broke through in the fourth with a two-run single from Codi Smith.

Colby-Sawyer quickly responded and turned the game around with three runs in the fifth inning. Doug Avellino knocked in Jackson Musco and Andrew Pratt with a double to left field. Avellino then scored on an error later in the inning.

The Chargers doubled their lead in the sixth inning on Justin Devoid's team leading third home run.

The Hornets plated a run in the sixth on a Nathan Stewart RBI double, but they could not complete the comeback giving Colby-Sawyer the 4-3 victory.  

Avellino and Tim Donovan finished with two hits for Colby-Sawyer. 

Each team received a complete game on the mound from their pitcher. Ryan Glendye earned his third win for the Chargers. He gave up three runs on six hits and struck out four. For Lyndon, Jeff Williams took the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits. He struck out six batters. 

GAME TWO - Lyndon 3, Colby-Sawyer 2 - suspended top of 6th

UPDATE > The Chargers rallied to score twice in the top of the seventh on a Doug Avellino RBI single who then scored the game-winning run on a single from Nathan Frongillo. Andrew Carbone got the win after throwing two scoreless innings. Andrew Whalen took the loss for Lyndon after blowing the save in the seventh. 

Liam Datres de la Blotier put the Chargers in front in the top of the second with an RBI single to right scoring Brendan Thurber. Later in the frame, Jackson Musco knocked in Joey Fenuccio with a sac fly.

Lyndon took advantage of three Colby-Sawyer miscues in the fifth inning to score three times and take a 3-2 lead. J Perkins came around on a David Laroche sac fly to begin the scoring for the Hornets. Kevin Tufo then scored on an error after stealing third base. The final run of the inning came on a single up the middle from Andre Eason Jr.

The game was then halted in the top of the sixth due to heavy rain.

Nathan Frongillo had two hits in his first three at-bats to continue his climb up the all-time hits list. He now has 131 to tie Lyndon assistant coach Greg Mehuron '12 for ninth place. 

Connor Henry pitched the first five innings and gave up three runs (no earned). He struck out four Hornets. 

Lyndon received five innings from James Mundy. He surrendered two runs on six hits.
