Women's Lacrosse Falls to Fitchburg State, 13-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 11, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team had its four-game win streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon with a 13-4 loss to Fitchburg State.

Fitchburg State improves to 6-5 and will begin a three-game homestand on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest against Framingham State. Colby-Sawyer has its four-game win streak snapped to drop to 7-3. The Chargers will hit the road this weekend for the first time since March 29. The team will play at Thomas on Friday and at Maine Maritime on Saturday.  

Colby-Sawyer junior Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) led the Chargers with three goals and four caused turnovers. She now has 121 career goals to rank ninth in program history. Junior Carli Chiodo (Madbury, N.H.) had the other Colby-Sawyer goal. Sophomore Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) collected a game best six draw controls.

The Falcons were led by a 7-point effort from senior Andrea Comeau (Watertown, Mass.). She recorded game highs of five goals and two assists. Senior Ali Laferriere (Tyngsboro, Mass.) added four goals and five draw controls. Junior Carrie Long (Foxborough, Mass.) had an impressive 10 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Long entered today's game ranked second in the nation with 4.3 caused turnovers per game.

Comeau opened the game with her first tally 1:11 into the contest. The Falcons would add three more goals in the next 10 minutes to take a 4-0 lead before Nicole Lavigne got the Chargers on the board with 15:06 left in the half.
Fitchburg State got one back on Comeau's third goal of the half, but was quickly answered by a successful free position from Chiodo.

The Falcons increased their advantage by scoring three unanswered goals to close the half with an 8-2 lead.

Laferriere put the visitors on top by eight with a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half.

Lavigne would score twice more for Colby-Sawyer in the frame, but her goals were sandwiched around three scores for Fitchburg State who won 13-4.

Senior Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) suffered her first loss of the season to drop to 6-1 after playing the first half with one save. Freshman Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) made eight saves in the second half. 

Fitchburg State sophomore goalie Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) earned the win after making eight saves.
