NEW LONDON, N.H. – March 26, 2017 – Colby-Sawyer junior Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) scored her 100th career goal, but the women's lacrosse team fell to UMaine-Farmington, 14-13, in overtime of Sunday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener.

UMF evens its overall record to 1-1 and goes to 1-0 in conference action. The Beavers will play at Salem State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Colby-Sawyer suffers its first loss to drop to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NAC. The Chargers will travel to Mount Ida on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest with the Mustangs.

The Beavers came away with the victory in extra time when junior Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) connected on a free position shot with 2:41 left on the overtime clock.

Colby-Sawyer held a 13-9 lead with 11:27 left in regulation after a Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) goal. UMF quickly cut the deficit to 13-10 less than 30 seconds later on a tally from Raymond.

The next nine minutes were scoreless until Raymond found the back of the net with two minutes to play. A minute later, senior Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H.) pulled UMF to within one with her fourth goal of the game.

With eight seconds left in the second half, UMF junior Sierra Gilley (Harpswell, Maine) possessed the ball behind the Colby-Sawyer net and found an oncoming Alaina Shorey (Lebanon, Maine). Shorey finished the one-timer to tie the score at 13-13 and send the game to overtime. The two also connected on a similar play in the first half.

The Chargers opened the game with four straight goals from four different players. The teams would then exchange the next eight goals to keep Colby-Sawyer in front 8-4. Senior Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) then scored twice for UMF to cut the deficit in half, but the Chargers pushed their lead back to four after goals from sophomore Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) and Nicole Lavigne. The goal from Lavigne at 2:24 was her 100th of her career. The Beavers closed the frame with two more goals from Shorey and Jackson to head into the break with Colby-Sawyer in front 10-8.

Schuster and Lavigne finished with four goals apiece for the Chargers, while junior Molly Mulcahy (Nashua, N.H.) added two goals and an assist. Senior Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) played the first half in net and made four saves, while freshman Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) played the final 33:19 and made an impressive nine saves.

Jackson had a game best five goals to lead UMF. Langevin added four goals, while Raymond chipped in three. Gilley finished with three assists. Freshman Samantha Bickford (Oxford, Maine) earned the win with nine saves.
