Women's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener at Rivier, 19-6

NASHUA, N.H. - February 25, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team defeated Rivier, 19-6, in a season opener for both teams. 

Colby-Sawyer, which wins its first season opener since 2009, improves to 1-0 and will play at Newbury on Wednesday. Rivier drops to 0-1 and will host Regis on Tuesday.  

The Chargers were paced by junior Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, VT). She had five goals, an assist and 10 ground balls. Seeing her first action as a Charger was sophomore Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.). She contributed four goals, four ground balls and an assist. Senior goalie Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) made five stops in 35 minutes of action, while freshman Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) went the final 25 minutes in net with five saves.  

Rivier was led by freshman Amanda Barton (Pelham, N.H.). She tallied a pair of goals, two ground balls and an assist. Freshman Sally Kennedy (Billerica, Mass.) added two goals. Sophomore Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) collected 10 saves in the loss.  
  
Colby-Sawyer scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back. Later in the first, the Chargers received goals from Lavigne and Carli Chiodo to go in front 8-2. Rivier scored the final two goals of the frame to cut the deficit to 8-4 at the break. 

The home team scored two out of the first five goals of the second half, but Colby-Sawyer tallied eight unanswered to end the game with the 19-6 victory.  

The Chargers outshot Rivier 35-17.
