CASTLETON, Vt. – November 4, 2017 – The second seed Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to top seed Castleton, 1-0, in Saturday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship match.
Castleton improves to 12-6-2 and earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 11-7. The Chargers appeared in the NAC title match for the second time in the past five years.
The Spartans beat the first half buzzer by scoring with one second left on the clock to take a 1-0 lead at the break, which resulted in the final score. Castleton was awarded a corner kick with time winding down when sophomore Fidele Rutayisire (Burlington, Vt.) hustled to the ball and sent the corner towards the box. Junior Sean Springer (Jericho, Vt.) was able to corral the ball and slip a pass to freshman Jacob Godfrey (Castleton, Vt.). Godfrey put his left foot on the ball and slid the shot by the diving Colby-Sawyer keeper with one tick on the clock.

The Chargers held an 11-9 edge in shots, while each side took five corner kicks.
