PLYMOUTH, N.H. - November 28, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team edged Plymouth State, 74-69, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
The Chargers improve to 2-1 and will host Keene State on Thursday. Plymouth State drops to 2-2.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) led all players with a career best 28 points on 10 of 19 shooting. He added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Sophomore
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) was the only other Charger in double figures with 15 points. Freshman
Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) chipped in six points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Plymouth State was led by Mike Osgood's double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jaylen Leroy was the second Panther to reach double figures with 19 points.
Colby-Sawyer led the entire first half and held a 36-34 advantage at the break. Plymouth State began the second half with back-to-back threes to take a 40-36 lead and was in front for much of the second frame. The Chargers trailed 69-66 with less than two minutes to play when
Dana Bean made a layup and a traditional three-point play to give Colby-Sawyer a 71-69 lead with 56 seconds remaining. A
Patrick Coffey layup and a free throw by
Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) sandwiched around a pair of long range misses by the Panthers secured the 74-69 victory for Colby-Sawyer.
The Chargers won the boards 43-39 and converted 17 of 20 free throws to Plymouth's 12 of 18 performance at the line.
Colby-Sawyer held the Panthers well below their season scoring average of 90.7.
