BIDDEFORD, Maine - November 18, 2017 - Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) scored 25 of his game best 29 points in the second half to lift the Chargers to a 66-62 victory over Saint Joseph's (Brooklyn) in Saturday's consolation game of the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the University of New England.
The Chargers even their record to 1-1 and will resume play at Plymouth State on November 28. Today's game was the first meeting between the two teams.
Coffey finished 12-20 from the floor and added nine rebounds. For his efforts, Coffey was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) was the only other Charger to reach double figures with 11 points. Bell also tied a single-game Colby-Sawyer record with an impressive eight steals. The only other player to reach eight steals in a game was Wol Majong '16 on February 12, 2016.
Each team struggled to find an offensive flow in a low scoring first half. The Chargers shot 29.2%, while the Bears were 32.3% from the floor to lead 25-21 after 20 minutes. The Bears also held a 23-12 advantage on the glass in the first frame.
Colby-Sawyer was more efficient in the second half leading to 45 points on 47.2% shooting, while Saint Joseph's shot 36.8%.
