WESTON, Mass. - January 5, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team cruised to a 79-54 road win at Regis on Thursday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-7 and will return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action next Thursday at Castleton. Regis drops to 4-7 and will return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday with a home game against Newbury. The Chargers and Pride will soon become conference mates once again as each institution transitions to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Regis will become a member next year, while Colby-Sawyer will join for the 2018-19 season.
Sophomore
Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) led all players with 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor and 6-of-12 from three-point range. Bell has surpassed the 30-point mark three times this season. Freshman
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) recorded his second straight double-double and fourth overall. He finished with 12 points and a game best 14 rebounds. Junior
Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) was the third Charger in double figures with 15 points. He added four assists. Freshman
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) brought down a career best 11 rebounds.
Regis received points from 12 different players, but no one reached double digits. Chris Leak Jr. and Shaun Wingfield led the team with nine points apiece. The Pride held a 31-9 advantage in bench points.
The Chargers led from the opening tip with their first five buckets coming from beyond the arc to take a 15-6 advantage four minutes into the game. Colby-Sawyer never looked back and continued hot shooting from long distance in the first to finish the half 9-of-17 (52.9%). Bell scored 19 of his 31 in the first, while Grande poured in 13 of his 15 to send the Chargers into the break in front 47-28.
The lead for Colby-Sawyer ballooned to 34 (77-43) after a pair of
Milani Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) free throws with just over four minutes to play in the game. Freshman
Keenan Caron (Manchester, N.H.) scored the game's last basket to secure the 79-54 victory.
Colby-Sawyer finished the game at 44% from beyond the arc and made 14-of-17 (82.4%) free throws.
