BANGOR, Maine - March 26, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team won its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at Husson, 14-4 on Saturday.
The Chargers have won two straight games to improve to 2-4 overall. The team is 1-0 in the NAC and will host intrastate foe New England College on Wednesday. Husson drops to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Chargers had two solid halves with six goals in the first and eight in the second. The team began the game with six straight tallies before Husson scored the final two of the first half. Colby-Sawyer started the second just as strong with five consecutive goals to take a commanding 11-2 lead. After a Husson goal stopped the streak, the Chargers added three more before the Eagles notched the game's final goal for a final of 14-4.
Caitlyn Whearty had a game best six goals, while
Nicole Lavigne added four tallies and four draw controls.
Sara Berry collected a pair of goals, six ground balls and four draw controls.
Molly Mulcahy and
Maryalice Gurnee rounded out the Colby-Sawyer scoring with a goal apiece.
Bailey Starr had five ground balls and five draw controls.
Meghan Castellano earned the win in goal with 12 saves, while Husson goalie Kaitlin Dolloff made 11 stops.
Four different players scored for the Eagles.
