Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs UMF, 4-2

FARMINGTON, Maine - October 22, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half to defeat the University of Maine at Farmington, 4-2 on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers improve to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference. The team will remain in Maine to play first place Thomas on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. UMF drops to 4-11 overall and 2-6 in the NAC. The Beavers host New England College tomorrow afternoon. 

Andrew Clothier scored off a corner kick by Jake Sykes at 6:35 to give the Chargers an early 1-0 lead. Colby-Sawyer doubled its lead in the 43rd minute off another corner kick, this time Clothier redirected the kick and found Yannick Gonsalves for the score.

Early in the second half, the referee pointed to the spot, giving UMF a penalty kick. Senior Henry Ametti cut the Beavers deficit in half with his second tally of the season. 

Colby-Sawyer answered back a few minutes later when Matt Schiller scored at 59:05 off a scramble in front of the net.

In the 67th minute, Zach Elmore dribbled into the box down the right side and beat UMF goalie Ronie Morales with a shot to the left side to put Colby-Sawyer in front 4-1. 

UMF got the final goal on a terrific cross from Tayoung Nuyepga that found Andrew Longhurst for the header. The goal was Longhurst first career goal.

Charger goalie Jake Towle earned the win with two saves. UMF keeper Ronie Morales made five stops in the loss. 

Colby-Sawyer outshot UMF 21-8 and had 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.
