BEVERLY, Mass. - September 23, 2015 - Colby-Sawyer College senior women's tennis student-athlete
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) became the program's all-time leader in career wins with 109 after recording singles and doubles victories in Wednesday's 6-3 victory at Endicott.
The Chargers improve to 7-1 and snap Endicott's seven-match win streak. Colby-Sawyer will host Lyndon on Saturday before traveling to Nichols on Sunday. Endicott drops to 7-2 and will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday.
Ramsay surpassed current Charger assistant coaches Jen (LaChance) Taylor '10 and
Elizabeth Lincoln '14 who each had 107 career wins. Ramsay also slides into a tie for third with soon-to-be Colby-Sawyer Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Lori (Monroe) Lombardi '97 with 49 singles wins. Ramsay also ranks second in career doubles wins with 60, which is three behind Lincoln.
In doubles play, Colby-Sawyer's number three pairing of
Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and
Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) started the scoring by claiming an 8-5 win.
Endicott's number two pairing of Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) would notch the only doubles victory for the Gulls with an 8-5 win over their Charger counterparts, while the point at the top doubles pairings would be the hardest fought, with Colby-Sawyer's
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and
Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) edging out a 9-7 victory to give the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
In singles action, Colby-Sawyer would see Ramsay (No. 1), Woodside (No. 2),
Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) (No. 4) and Blanchard (No. 6) win their matchups to claim the 6-3 victory.
The Gulls would get singles victories from Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) at number three by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) at number five in three sets by scores of 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 to finish the Endicott scoring.
