NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 22, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team defeated Green Mountain, 9-0 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division match on Tuesday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Chargers will play at Endicott tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Green Mountain falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the NEAC East. The Eagles will host Husson and Thomas over the weekend.
The Chargers took all three doubles matches 8-0 and won each singles match in straight sets.
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and
Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) defeated Alex Reedy (Rutland, Vt.) and Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J) by an 8-0 score at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 duo of
Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) also earned an 8-0 win over Jada Lee (Midland, Texas) and Ruby Santiago (Worcester, Mass.).
Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) and
Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) combined for an 8-0 victory over Hseng Leng (Namkham, Myanmar) and Brenda Swingle (Naugatuck, Conn.) at third doubles.
Ramsay and Woodside won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, 6-0, 6-0. With the two wins today,
Ashlyn Ramsay tied for the all-time lead in career victories with 107.
Marissa Ulmer (Windham, Maine) came away with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3, while
Abbie Rix (Westfield, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Julia Varney (Readfield, Maine) and
Cate Connery (Darien, Conn.) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.
