MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - September 22, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell at Middlebury, 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon. 

Middlebury (4-1) returns to action Saturday morning with a NESCAC road contest at Bowdoin starting at 11:30 a.m., while the Chargers (3-5) host Husson on the same day.

The hosts grabbed the momentum and maintained early pressure with six shots in the first 11:48 of play. On their seventh attempt, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead as Daniel O'Grady gathered a loose ball at his feet just outside the Charger penalty area. He flicked a lofted ball over to Greg Conrad, whose nifty one-touch connected with Adam Glaser's feet and over charging Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Sean Babinski.

In the 17th minute with the Panthers up a goal, Glaser raced down the right side of the pitch and sent a cross into the penalty area. The ball found a sprinting O'Grady, who found space inside the defense and tallied his first career goal, giving Middlebury a two-goal lead at 16:56.

Nearly three minutes later, Deklan Robinson gave Middlebury a three-goal edge when he tapped in a corner kick just inside the far post. With a little more than a minute elapsed, Glaser and O'Grady connected once again. O'Grady carried the ball up the right side, made a quick move toward the center of the pitch and sent a cross to Glaser. He collected the ball and sent a blast from 22 yards out that tucked in under the far upper 90 for a 4-0 advantage at 20:45.

Colby-Sawyer's best scoring opportunity of the opening half came in the 22nd minute. Zach Elmore gathered a bouncing ball in front of the Middlebury goal, but his high, hard shot was tipped over the crossbar by Panther starting goalie Greg Sydor.     

The Panthers tallied their fifth goal of the first half when Robinson headed in a cross by Tom Dils at 37:14, as Middlebury took a 5-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the hosts recorded their sixth goal at 49:43. Conrad muscled his way into the box from the left, and blistered a hard shot to the near post.

Colby-Sawyer had a good chance in the 63rd minute when Denali Sexton found a crease in the Panther defense, but his shot from 12 yards was blocked by Tom Bean,
Middlebury held advantages in both shots (21-4) and corner kicks (7-2). Sydor played the first half in goal for the Panthers with one save, while Jeremy Yeager logged the final 45:00 with a save. Through five matches, the Panthers have allowed just one goal. Babinski was credited with six stops.

Coach Wilkinson's Postgame remarks:
Some reserve players stepped up and impressed me today with Noah Camelo being one of those players along with Jake Sykes. In the first half and much like our other games, we are gifting teams goals. We are giving away too many cheap goals and these are things that we can fix but most of it has to do with pride. Its a very short season and we need to sort it out right away.
 
Our second half was much better especially when Anthony Romeo, David Pierre and Dylan West came into the game. We were more balanced in the back, better going forward and gave Middlebury less opportunities in their final third. 
 
Denali Sexton did a solid job for us up top. He held the ball up, linked up with the midfield and tried anything and everything to try to and change the game. Definitely a leader out there and was one of the bright spots of the game for me.
