NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 12, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division action with an 8-1 victory over Castleton University on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Chargers will travel to Johnson State on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match. Castleton drops to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC. The Spartans step out of conference for a match at Sage on Tuesday.
The Chargers took all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to win their 25th straight conference match dating back to 2011.
Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and
Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) defeated Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak, 8-0 at the top doubles flight.
The No. 2 doubles duo of
Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) remained perfect on the season with an 8-3 win over Meg Susslin and Dianne Benedicto.
Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and
Christine Hill (Wallingford, Conn.) downed the No. 3 duo of Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk, 8-4.
Ashlyn Ramsay picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top flight, while O'Connor and Miller won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots, respectively.
The Spartans' lone point came at the No. 4 spot. Ciara Bannister defeated
Maddy Gemerek in three sets. Bannister just edged Gemerek 7-5 in the first, but Gemerek evened the match by cruising to a 6-0 second set victory. Bannister closed the match with a 10-7 pro set win in the third.
Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and
Christine Hill came away with a three set victory at No. 6.
