NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 2, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team fell to Green Mountain College, 91-81 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams.
Green Mountain improves to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The Eagles will host Thomas on Friday night. The Chargers drop to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Colby-Sawyer travels to Lyndon on Saturday.
The Eagles raced out to a 15-4 lead in the first six minutes capped by a Mychal Parker (Washington, N.C.) slam. The Chargers chipped away and trailed 17-11 after another Parker dunk, which resulted in the senior's second technical foul for hanging on the rim after having picked one up on his previous dunk for swatting the ball out of a Colby-Sawyer player's hands. The Green Mountain bench was then issued two more technical fouls (one Class A, one Class B) resulting in four free throws that senior
Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) connected on to pull within 17-15. With the Chargers still holding possession, sophomore
Nolan Bird (Clarksburg, Mass.) hit a trey to give the home team an 18-17 lead with 12:11 left to play in the first.
The remainder of the frame went back and forth until the Chargers ended on a 10-3 run capped by a buzzer beater trey from sophomore
Taylor Grande (Bedford, N.H.) to take a 46-40 lead into the break. The first half ended with four technical fouls (2 class A, 2 class B) and 27 total foul calls.
After deliberation by the refs at the half, Parker was granted to come back and play the second as he was hit with one Class A technical and one Class B technical. A player must get two Class A technical, one Class A and two Class B technicals, or three Class B technicals to be ejected.
He made his time on the court count in the second half scoring 11 of his 15 points in the frame to lead the Green Mountain comeback. The Eagles shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the second and held the Chargers to 35.1 percent.
