Biddeford, Maine – October 3, 2015 – It was a brisk, cloudy Saturday morning, two and half hours away the Colby-Sawyer campus for a 10am start. The Colby-Sawyer Women's Rugby team took the field against the the only other unbeaten team left in conference play, the University of New England Nor'Easters. UNE scored first and took the early 5 – 0 lead. The Chargers retaliated with a try from
Helena Hamilton on a huge run. Following the run Hamilton kicked for 2 more points putting the chargers in the lead, 7 -0. After a hard fought 30 minutes, a UNE player was injured, pausing play for 30 minutes as the emergency response team helped the injury player. After this lengthy delay the cold restart proved to be a challenge for the Chargers on their own 5 meter line, as they gave a late try with UNE leading.
After a sloppy reception by Colby-Sawyer and several spun scrums, UNE scored extending the Nor'Easters lead. There were some hard fought back and forth a battles with try's on both sides of the ball. The Chargers mounted a comeback attempt in the second half coming within a try after converting a penalty kick from a UNE high tackle. The excellent fitness and stamina from the Chargers proved to be too little too late and luck was not on the Chargeres side. With 13 minutes left on the clock, an unfortunate bounce gave UNE the ball close to the Chargers line, with a super human effort by the scrum the Chargers were quickly plagued by another knock. The nail was hammered with the home teams drive down the middle leaving the Chargers down for a final score of 36-27 to end the match.
