Men's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight; Defeats UMF 72-55

FARMINGTON, Maine - January 9, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team received double figure scoring from four different players in Friday's 72-55 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at the University of Maine-Farmington. 

Colby-Sawyer pushes its win streak to five straight to improve to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the NAC. The Chargers stay in Maine tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Thomas College. UMF drops to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Beavers host New England College at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. 

The Chargers used a strong offensive first half to create separation from the Beavers, which resulted in a 42-24 lead at the break. Colby-Sawyer made seven three-pointers in the first frame, as well as, seven two-point buckets and seven free throws. 

Zach Bean nailed four three-pointers on his way to a game-high 16 points. Wol Majong added 14 points and seven rebounds. Peter Donato chipped in with 12 points and eight boards, while Mike Dias was the fourth Charger in double figures with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. 

Nick Hilton recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 points and game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Michael Atkins set a new career high with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 16 minutes. 
 
The two teams were evenly matched shooting from the floor. CSC shot 41.9% (26-62) as UMF shot a percent better at 42.9% (21-49) and both teams shot 31% from long range. The Chargers defense caused 15 Beaver turnovers and outscored UMF by 16 in points off turnovers.
