Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Chargers Past Green Mountain

POULTNEY, Vt. - January 20, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team received double-figure scoring from four different players to earn a 74-63North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win at Green Mountain on Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-4 overall and 8-1 in the NAC. The Chargers host New England College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Green Mountain falls to 4-9 overall and evens its conference record at 4-4. The Eagles play at Thomas on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Mike Dias and Cam Meservey led the Chargers with 13 points apiece, while Wol Majong and Zach Bean each scored 11 points. Although the Chargers were outrebounded 41-35, they made 22 of 26 free throws, while Green Mountain attempted only 11.

Green Mountain's Cameron Anderson was the high scorer for the Eagles with 13 points. He and Javier Lugris each grabbed 11 boards with Lugris adding 11 points. Chris Strong also posted double figure scoring with 12 points, while Cassius Belfon contributed 11 points off the bench.

GMC surged out to a quick 6-2 lead thanks to four points from Strong and a layup by Lugris. The teams would trade baskets back and forth with the hosts remaining in the lead until the 12:10 mark when Meservey's three point shot gave the visitors their first lead of the game at 14-13. The Chargers and Eagles both had a run of their own down the stretch in the first half with the visitors taking a 35-30 lead into the break.

Colby-Sawyer would hold its lead through the first 11 minutes of the second half until the Eagles' Boo Agee hit a three to knot the score at 52-52 with 8:58 remaining in the game. A Zach Bean layup and a three-point play by Dias would restore the visitor's lead within a minute of the Eagles tying the game.

Green Mountain whittled the lead to three at 57-54 on a made layup by Anderson, but that was as close as the Eagles would get as the Chargers hit 13-of-14 free throws from there on out to ice the game.
