NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 16, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to Husson University, 82-77 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday evening.
Husson improves to 11-2 and 7-0 in NAC play while Colby-Sawyer falls to 8-4 and 6-1 in league play. The Eagles play at New England College at 3:00 p.m., while the Chargers look to rebound with a 3:00 p.m. home game against Maine Maritime.
The Eagles were led by Raheem Anderson (Miramar, FL) who scored a team-high 21 points and Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) who added 20. Eli Itkin (Pawtucket, R.I.) contributed 12 points off the bench, while Aaron Willis (Long Island, N.Y.) was the fourth Eagle in double figures with 10.
Junior
Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) led the Chargers with 21 points. Junior
Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) had 17 points and a game-high four steals, while
Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) added 12 points. Senior
Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) chipped in with 12 points in 18 minutes off the bench.
The first half was played tightly throughout with neither team able to create more than a six-point advantage. Butler led all scorers in the first with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Both teams shot the ball well in the first frame, but Colby-Sawyer was able to take a 44-42 lead into the break thanks to a 10-5 edge in offensive rebounds resulting in a 13-4 edge in second chance points.
The Eagles erased the halftime deficit beginning the second frame on a 14-5 run capped by a Willis trey. The Chargers went on a run of their own, scoring 13 out of the next 19 points to get within 63-62 with nine minutes left. Colby-Sawyer held a 70-68 lead with 5:37 remaining, but the Eagles scored the next 11 points capped by a Butler bucket to take a 79-70 lead with 2:24 to go in the contest. Colby-Sawyer pulled within four on two occasions down the stretch, but the Eagles held on for the win.
Husson finished the game with 52.5 percent shooting and 10-of-21 from downtown. The Chargers held the advantage on the free throw line with 16 makes versus eight for the Eagles.
