NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 30, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team fell to Nichols College, 7-2 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Nichols evens its record at 1-1 and will host Coast Guard on October 11 at 3:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer drops to 1-2 and has a match at Conn. College on Saturday.
The Bison swept doubles action to begin the afternoon and take a commanding 3-0 lead. Jordan Eriksen and Brandon Roode edged Colby-Sawyer's top duo of
Cass McCann and
Myles Utell, 8-6. Cam Lewis and Keenan Hughes teamed for an 8-2 victory over
Nathan Taschereau and
Rico Bailey at No. 2. Josh Halpern and Austin DuBois gave Nichols a doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over
Dean Boodakian and
Andrew Peloquin at the third spot.
Roode earned a point for the Bison with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the top flight over Taschereau.
Colby-Sawyer got on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 victory from
Myles Utell over Joan Castillo at the second flight.
In the tightest match of the afternoon, Josh Halpern edge
Cass McCann 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 at No. 3.
Jake Zapatka cruised to a No. 4 singles victory over Peloquin, 6-0, 6-1, while Cam Lewis earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Boodakian at No. 6.
Rico Bailey recorded Colby-Sawyer's second singles win with a 7-5, 6-0 over Hughes in the fifth slot.
