NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 28, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon at the Kelsey Tennis Courts.
The Chargers are now 1-1 on the season and will host Nichols on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Roger Williams drops to 0-1 and will resume play in February.
Colby-Sawyer took two of three doubles matches to begin the afternoon.
Myles Utell and
Cass McCann defeated Eric Laboissonnieree and Zack Bussiere, 8-3 at the top spot, while the No. 2 Charger duo of
Nathan Taschereau and
Rico Bailey cruised to an 8-1 victory over Ryan Swanson and Kyle Bull. The Hawks received a point in the No. 3 slot as Grant Rosenberg and Jonah Schwartz edged
Dean Boodakian and
Andrew Peloquin, 9-7.
Colby-Sawyer's Taschereau and Utell took their No. 1 and No. 2 matches in straight sets. McCann won at No. 3 but received a tough test from Ryan Swanson. McCann won by scores of 7-6 (5), and 6-3.
Ryan Broderick triumphed 6-3, 7-5 in the sixth slot over Kyle Bull.
Roger Williams' received singles points from the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. Jonah Schwartz earned a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets victory over
Andrew Peloquin at No. 4, while Grant Rosenberg won the first set 6-4, but
Sergio Spassof rebounded to tie the match with a 6-4 set two victory. Rosenberg then took the third set 10-8.
