Field Hockey Sails Past NEC, 4-0 in NAC Opener

HENNIKER, N.H.— September 27, 2014 - Colby-Sawyer College field hockey sophomore Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt) netted two goals and dished out an assist leading the visiting Chargers past the New England College Pilgrims Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win the Chargers improve to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), while the Pilgrims fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in NAC play.
 
Colby-Sawyer would strike six minutes into the game as Allyse Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) tipped in a shot off the stick of Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.), recording her first goal of the season and putting the Charges up 1-0.
 
The Chargers threatened several times throughout the opening half, including a shot from Hannah Coggins (West Newbury, Mass.) that would ricochet off the post and out in the 24th minute and a last minute shot off a corner as time expired, but would come up empty and head into halftime up 1-0.
 
Colby-Sawyer would extend its lead to 2-0 just two minutes into the second half as Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) intercepted an NEC pass and took it in for the unassisted goal.
 
The Chargers gave themselves some breathing room later in the second half netting two goals in the 57th minute of play, including an unassisted score by Mullen and a goal from Stritzinger assist by Mullen.
 
The Pilgrims mustered just five shots on net, as the Chargers finished the game with the 19-7 advantage in shots.
 
Picking up the win in net for Colby-Sawyer was Jodi Dumayne(Claremont, N.H.) who finished with five saves.  NEC's Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) made 11 saves in net for the Pilgrims.
 
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host conference opponent Thomas College.  Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they travel to take on conference foe University of Maine Farmington.
