FIELD HOCKEY ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS AFTER SHUTOUT

New London, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team advanced to the GNAC semi-finals with a 6-0 quarterfinal win against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday at Sally Shaw Veitch field. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Both teams had attacking opportunities in the first quarter. The lone goal of the first quarter would come from Jillian Fredette (Weare, N.H.) who scored off a Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) assist to put the Chargers up 1-0. 

  • The first half would end 1-0. In the third quarter, Farquhar would be assisted by Mikayla Thornton (Lebanon, N.H.) to double the lead for the Chargers. 

  • Nine minutes later, Zoe Dries (Windham, Maine) added another goal for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • The Chargers would continue the pressure as less than two minutes later Fredette would assist Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) for the Chargers' fourth goal of the game. 

  • At the buzzer of the third quarter, Ponzini would score from an Aili Carney (Derry, N.H.) assist. 

  • With less than a minute to go in the game, Fredette would assist Farquhar for the last goal of the game. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had three saves on the way to a shutout. 

  • With two goals on the day, Ponzini moves to nine goals on the season so far. 

  • Farquhar has now scored in each of the last five games for the Chargers, as her season total improves to 26. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will travel to Standish, Maine to take on the #2 seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the GNAC semifinals on Wednesday at 6pm.
