CHARGERS FINISH AS RUNNER UP IN FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

FRANKLIN, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team traveled to Franklin, Massachusetts to take on first seeded Dean College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon in search for the programs first title.

Rapid Recap:
  • The atmosphere was high as both teams would go back and forth, trying to be the first on the board. Dean would get a shot within the first 90 seconds from Emily Yazzetti that would be saved by goal keeper Addy Araneo (Yorktown Heights, NY). The Chargers would go on to draw a penalty corner that led to two straight shots as both were saved by Bulldogs goal keeper Sara Gardner. The Bulldogs would strike first just before the first period would end from Emma Gragen.
  • The Bulldogs would go on to add pressure in the second quarter drawing multiple corners, but the Chargers defense would stop every attempt. Colby-Sawyer would go on the attack to try and knot the game, but Gardner was hard to get past in net. Sydney Ramos would give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead going into the half.
  • The Chargers came out with even more energy in the second half, looking to get themselves back into the game. Colby-Sawyer's defense would get some huge stops to send the offense in attack where Zoe Dries (Windham, Maine) would score the Chargers first goal from an assist from Jillian Fredette (Weare, N.H.).
  • Emily Yazetti would give the Bulldogs another goal the first couple minutes into the fourth. The Chargers would go on to add some pressure in the fourth quarter, as they would rip 3 shots with 10 minutes to go from Jillian Fredette and Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) to try and find a way back into the game. The Bulldogs would play out the clock to end the GNAC Championship on top, 3-1.
