Ashley Fruzzetti Scores 17 as Chargers Down Lyndon, 64-40

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 20, 2014 – Senior Ashley Fruzzetti (Carver, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team past Lyndon St., 64-40 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Thursday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 15-9 overall and are locked into the second spot in the NAC with a 14-3 record. The Chargers will travel to Johnson on Saturday for a regular season finale that tips off at 1:00 p.m. The Hornets fall to 3-19 overall and 3-14 in the NAC. Lyndon will host New England College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. 

Fruzzetti finished the game 6-10 from the floor and 3-6 from beyond the arc. Junior Kelsey Bragdon (Wells, Maine) also reached double figures with 10 points. Two-time NAC Player of the Week, junior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.), had eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks. She moved into 9th in career blocks with 89. Freshman Dina Tischofer (Bow, N.H.) contributed five points and six rebounds.

Lyndon was led by freshman Drew Neal (Glover, Vt.). She scored 15 points on 6-12 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench. Junior Emily Gray (Quincy, Mass.) had 10 points and a pair of steals, while senior Amanda Martin (East Thetford, Vt.) pulled down a game best nine rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer's Katie McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) hit a three pointer to open the scoring 1:30 into the game and the Chargers never looked back. The home team would open a 14-0 lead over the first 10 minutes before the Hornets received a jumper from Emily Gray. Leading 25-9 with less than three minutes to play in the frame, Colby-Sawyer received a pair of Fruzzetti trey's and a jumper by Cahill to take its largest lead of the half, 33-11, into the locker room. 

The Chargers were able to hold a comfortable lead throughout the remainder of the game as 14 players saw action. The largest advantage of the contest came at the 7:53 mark on a layup from freshman Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.). Colby-Sawyer came away with its ninth straight victory, 64-40.

The Chargers outrebounded Lyndon 54-43, while holding the Hornets to 25 percent shooting.
