Chargers Use 18-0 Run in 91-87 Comeback Win over Lyndon

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 20, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team used an 18-0 run in the span of 3:27 late in the second half to come from behind for a 91-87 victory over Lyndon St. in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Thursday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 13-10 overall and 12-5 in the NAC. The Chargers, who sit in third place in the standings, will conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Johnson. Lyndon drops to 11-13 overall and 11-6 in the NAC. The Hornets will host New England College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Trailing 79-67 with 7:05 left to play in the game, the Chargers scored 18 straight points to take an 85-79 lead. Sophomore Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) and junior Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) combined for all 18 points, with Maynard scoring 11 and Thok seven.

The Hornets scored the game's next three points on a Josh Bosworth (East Longmeadow, Mass.) free throw and a David Johnson (Washington, D.C.) jumper. Colby-Sawyer responded with three points from junior Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) to regain a six-point advantage with 1:37 left to play. After each team scored a pair, the visitors received a trey from Iser Barnes (Boston, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 90-87. A free throw by sophomore Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) put the game away for the Chargers as a last second heave failed to connect, giving Colby-Sawyer a 91-87 victory.

The first half was back-and-forth with six lead changes. Each team led by as much as nine points. A Stephen Thorpe (Chicago, Ill.) layup gave the home team an 18-9 lead eight minutes into the game, but Lyndon battled back over the next several minutes to take a 37-28 advantage. Colby-Sawyer then used an 11-2 run capped by a Mike Dias jumper to even the game at 41-41. With one second on the clock, the Hornets had the ball sideline out of bounds and connected on an alley-oop play to George Carle (Central Falls, R.I.) to take a 43-41 lead at the break. 

Colby-Sawyer's Mike Dias took over in the second half with 16 points and 14 rebounds, to finish the game with a double-double of 25 points and a career-high 16 boards. Koang Thok also did most of his work in the second half scoring 11 of his 18 points. Jake Maynard finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while junior Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) also reached double figures with 20 points.

Lyndon was led by a game-high 27 points from David Johnson. He added three assists and three steals in the loss. Josh Bosworth finished with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior JoJo Woodruff (Washington, D.C.) had 13 points and a game-high five assists. Iser Barnes was the fourth Hornet in double figures with 14 points.
