Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – February 1, 2014 - Colby-Sawyer College outshot host University of Maine at Farmington from 3-point range and escaped Dearborn Gym with a 65-56 North Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improved to 10-9 overall and 9-3 in conference play with the victory, while UMaine-Farmington fell to 7-12 overall, 6-6 in the NAC. The Chargers will now prepare for an important two-game home stand next weekend against Husson and Maine Maritime. 

The Chargers went 10-of-28 from beyond the arc, paced by Jessica Shenkel's four treys on the afternoon. Ashley Fruzzetti tacked on three more from long range, part of Colby-Sawyer's 39.3 percent field goal shooting overall.

Defensively, Colby-Sawyer also held UMaine-Farmington to 33.9 percent shooting, well below its season mark of 38.9 percent coming into the game.

Shenkel finished with 15 points and five rebounds to pace the Chargers offensively, while Kelsey Cahill charted 13 points with a team-high seven boards and tied a career with seven steals. Kristin Ellis picked up the bulk of those vacated minutes, posting eight points, six rebounds, and three assists off the bench.

UMaine-Farmington had four players in double-figures, led by Lindsay Ranquist's 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomores Ayla Allen and Meghan Smith each finished with 10 points and three assists, with Allen also recording five steals.

Freshman Kennadi Grover came off the bench to log 12 points and three thefts for the Beavers.

The two teams were tied 27-27 at the half, and the score remained knotted at 35-35 at the 13:52 mark following a Shenkel 3-pointer.

Ellis connected on the second of two foul shots to break the tie, and Fruzzetti canned a three to extend the lead.

Those two plays were the start of a 12-1 run for Colby-Sawyer, ending with the Chargers holding a 47-36 lead on another Fruzzetti trey with 11:24 showing on the clock.

The Beavers cut that lead down to five, 61-55, with 20 seconds remaining, after jumpers by Grover and Elizabeth Ferry and a 3-pointer and two foul shots by Ranquist. Colby-Sawyer rallied to go 4-of-4 at the stripe in the waning seconds to preserve the win.
