NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 6, 2014 – Colby-Sawyer junior
Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Chargers to a 98-69 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Green Mountain on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers even their overall record to 3-3 and go to 1-0 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer travels to Norwich on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Green Mountain drops to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Donato was 12-of-17 from the floor and added a pair of blocks. Junior
Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) added 14 points and a career-high eight assists. Senior
Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) scored 13 points, while senior
Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) added 12. Junior
Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) was the fifth Charger in double figures with 10 points and added seven rebounds.
Green Mountain was led by senior Cassius Belfon (Boston, Mass.). He had a team best 22 points in 22 minutes off the bench. He was 6-of-9 from the floor and made 7-of-8 free throws. Junior Cameron Anderson (Charlottesville, Va.) tallied a double-double of 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer began the game with a 13-2 run capped by a Maynard layup. The Eagles soared back with a 15-2 run in the next four minutes to take a 17-15 lead. Trailing 29-28 with five minutes left, Colby-Sawyer finished the frame on a 12-2 run to take a 40-31 lead into halftime.
The Chargers took command of the game early in the second half thanks to strong play by Donato. He scored 11 of Colby-Sawyer's 14 points in the first four minutes of the half to give the Chargers a 54-34 lead. Colby-Sawyer scored 32 of its 58 second half points in the paint.
