Five Chargers Reach Double Figures in 95-58 Win over Eagles

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 21, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team soared to a 95-58 victory over Green Mountain in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Chargers will travel down I-89 for a 1:00 p.m. Saturday meeting at New England College. The Eagles fall to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the NAC. Green Mountain will host Thomas on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

A free throw by Colby-Sawyer's Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) opened the game before Cassius Belfon (Boston, Mass.) made a jumper seconds later to give Green Mountain its only lead of the game at 2-1. The Chargers then jumped out to a 21-10 lead when Robert Holloway (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) hit a three-pointer to pull the Eagles within eight. Colby-Sawyer held the visitors without a point for the next 6:24 extending its lead to 39-13. The Chargers took a 58-30 lead into the break benefiting from 22 bench points and 17 points off turnovers.

Colby-Sawyer was able to hold a comfortable double-digit throughout the entire second half en route to the 95-58 victory.

Junior Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) led all players with 18 points on 6-10 from the floor and 4-7 from beyond the arc. Junior Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) and junior Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) each had 13 points. Sophomore Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) added 12 off the bench and Donato was the fifth Charger to reach double figures with 10. Senior Stephen Thorpe (Chicago, Ill.) moved into fourth on Colby-Sawyer's career steals list with 165 after four thefts today. He also matched a career-high eight assists.

Belfon led the Eagles with 14 points on 5-8 shooting. Holloway also reached double digits with 10 points. Terry Jones (Pearl, Miss.) and Javier Lurgis (Madrid, Spain) added six points apiece.

Colby-Sawyer shot 51.5% for the game and outrebounded Green Mountain 42-23.
