Fruzzetti Makes Six Threes in 79-56 Win over UMF

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 10, 2014 – Senior Ashley Fruzzetti (Carver, Mass.) made six three-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points in Friday's 79-56 Colby-Sawyer victory over the University of Maine Farmington.

The Chargers improve to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Colby-Sawyer hosts Thomas College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Beavers fall to 4-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play. UMF plays at New England College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.

Fruzzetti hit five of her six treys in the first half and moved into fourth on Colby-Sawyer's career made three-point field goals list with 155.  

Junior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) filled the stat sheet for Colby-Sawyer with 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Senior Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) pulled down a game best 10 rebounds. Freshman Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) added nine points off the bench.

UMF was led by junior Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine). She scored 15 points and collected a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Ayla Allen (Mexico, Maine) added eight points and a pair of steals. Freshman Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine) chipped in off the bench with six points and six boards.

The contest was back and forth for the first several minutes of the game with eight lead changes and three ties. UMF held its biggest lead of the contest three minutes into the frame after senior Holly Oliver (Belgrade Lakes, Maine) connected on a jumper for a 6-2 lead. With the score tied at 18-18 midway through the half, Colby-Sawyer began to find the range from beyond the arc. Over the final ten minutes of the half, the Chargers connected on five treys to head into the break with a 41-28 advantage. Colby-Sawyer also received a lift from the bench throughout the half with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

The Beavers were able to claw back to under a ten point deficit on multiple occasions early in the second half, but Colby-Sawyer became more aggressive on offense, which resulted in many trips to the free throw line. The Chargers made 15 of 18 second half attempts. The home team began to pull away with less than six minutes to play and cruise to the 79-56 win. A Marquis MacGlashing (Cape Neddick, Maine) layup with 1:36 remaining gave the Colby-Sawyer its largest lead at 77-49.

Colby-Sawyer scored 29 points off 26 UMF turnovers.
