Women's Basketball Advances to Second Straight NAC Title Game

CASTLETON, Vt. – February 22, 2013 –
The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team advanced to its second straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title game after defeating New England College, 62-52 in Friday's semifinal contest.

Colby-Sawyer (22-5) held New England College (18-9) to 28.1% from the floor. The Chargers were led by senior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.). She scored 20 points on 8-10 shooting and had eight rebounds. Senior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) was the only other Charger to reach double-figures with 10 points. Junior Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) collected six points and six rebounds off the bench.

New England College received a game-high 21 points from sophomore Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, Fla.). She was 6-8 in the first half for 16 points, but was held to 1-7 in the second. Sophomore Taylor Burgess (Randallstown, Md.) also reached double-figures with 11 points.

The first half was back and forth throughout as both teams tried to get comfortable on both ends. The Pilgrims held their biggest lead of three points at the 10:04 mark when Lawlor connected on one of her three made trey's in the frame. The Chargers held their biggest advantage of seven points with 2:25 left after sophomore Kelsey Bragdon (Wells, Maine) made a layup. Lawlor had a first half high of 16 points. Colby-Sawyer DeSanty scored all 10 of her points in the first for the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer's lead ballooned to 19 at the 2:10 mark, but the Pilgrims made a late comeback to cut the deficit after scoring 11 of the game's final 14 points. The Chargers held the Pilgrims to 23.1% shooting in the second half en route to securing the 62-52 win.

Colby-Sawyer held a 32-20 edge on the glass, while the Pilgrims turned 19 Colby-Sawyer miscues into 19 points.
