Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 3, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team edged Plymouth State, 53-48 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-4 and will open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. tip at Green Mountain. The Panthers fall to 0-5 and will host UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a Little East Conference season opener.
The Chargers raced out to an 11-point lead after a three pointer from sophomore
Jessica Shenkel (Sharon, Mass.) at 12:41 in the first half. Colby-Sawyer was able to hold a sizable lead and pushed its advantage to 15 on another trey by Shenkel with less than five minutes remaining in the frame. A lay-in by Plymouth's Kristen Hrubowchak (Litchfield, N.H.) cut the deficit to 13, but Colby-Sawyer responded with a
Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) basket to take a 32-17 lead into the half.
Colby-Sawyer held on to a comfortable margin for much of the second stanza before Plymouth found a rhythm and made a comeback. Down 51-39 with 6:13 left to play, the Panthers scored the next nine points capped by a Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) bucket to pull within three at 51-48. The Chargers were able to stave off the comeback with a pair of free throws from
Katie McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) to win 53-48.
Colby-Sawyer junior
Kelsey Bragdon (Wells, Maine) led all players with 11 points.
Mari Meserve collected a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior
Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) had nine points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks and three assists. Senior
Ashley Fruzzetti (Carver, Mass.) chipped in six points and seven boards.
Plymouth was led by a double-double from senior Krystin Corliss (Barnstead, N.H.). She recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with a team-high four assists and three steals. Kristen Hrubowchak added nine points off the bench. Sophomore Bry Bennett (Lancaster, N.H.) contributed six points and six rebounds.
The Chargers won the battle of the boards 46-35 and held Plymouth State to 28.1% shooting.
