Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 9, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team fell to intrastate rival New England College, 2-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest Wednesday afternoon at Mercer Field.

The Pilgrims pick up their first NAC victory of the season (1-4) and improve to 2-12 overall. Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-7 overall and is also 1-4 in the conference.
The lone goal of the first half came with less than four minutes remaining in the frame. Sophomore Cody Kent (Rye, N.H.) sent a ball across the goal mouth where freshman Carissa O'Brien (Johnstown, N.Y.) was standing for the redirection into the cage for her second goal of the season.
New England College controlled the pace in the first 35 minutes despite outshooting the Chargers by only one, 5-4.
Colby-Sawyer came out of the half time break with more energy and urgency on the offensive end. The Chargers had an 11-4 edge in shots in the stanza, but could not break through for a goal.
Although the action was mostly controlled by the home team in the second half, the Pilgrims added an insurance goal at 67:38. Senior Kristen O'Connell (Melrose, Mass.) ripped a shot towards the goal that was saved by the Colby-Sawyer keeper. The ball came right back to O'Connell who made a diving shot attempt that went by the goalie and into the cage for her third tally of the year.
NEC senior Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.) made 10 saves en route to the shutout victory. Sophomore
Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) had five saves in the loss for the Chargers.
Colby-Sawyer begins a four-game road trip on Sunday with a nonconference tilt at Johnson & Wales at 1:00 p.m. New England College will host NAC foe Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
