Women’s Basketball Earns 75-68 Road Win at Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – January 26, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team edged the Hornets of Lyndon, 75-68 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Thursday evening.

The Chargers improve to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the NAC. Lyndon drops to 6-11 overall and 4-7 in conference action.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) led all players with 19 points and added a career-high eight rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. Junior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) flirted with a triple-double as she had 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Junior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) was the fourth Chargers to reach double-figures with 11 points.

Junior Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt.) led five Hornets in double-figures with 17 points. She also pulled down a game best 13 rebounds. Senior Naomi White (Danville, Vt.) also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Danielle LaFont (Albany, Vt.) had 13 points, while freshman Dannika Dobrowski (Plainfield, Vt.) and sophomore Chelsea Watson (Eilot, Maine) poured in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Chargers held an advantage throughout the entire first half and led 33–27 at the break thanks to a 28-21 edge in rebounds. Colby-Sawyer's Kelsey Cahill led all scorers with 10 points. Danielle LaFont had eight points to lead Lyndon.

Both teams shot the ball better in the second half Colby-Sawyer (47.1%), Lyndon (38.9%), but the Chargers were able to control the pace by increasing their rebounding margin. The visitors had a 55-41 edge on the glass.

Colby-Sawyer returns home on Saturday to host Johnson State at 1:00 pm. Lyndon travels to New England College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm tip.
