NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 17, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team scored two first half goals en route a 2-1 nonconference victory over Wheaton, on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-3, while Wheaton drops to 1-3-2.
Sophomore
Kevin Flaherty (Wilmington, Mass.) opened the scoring in the eighth minute for the home team. The goal was his first of the season.
Colby-Sawyer increased the margin to two goals when freshman
Clay Allen (Massena, N.Y.) found the back of the net with his second tally of the season.
Kurt Carvalho was credited with an assist.
Wheaton cut the deficit in half in the 72nd minute when junior Federico Kelly (Hingham, Mass.) collected a pass from junior David Turina (N. Yarmouth, Maine) and fired it into the goal. The goal was Kelly's third of the season.

Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) played nearly the entire game in net in recording his first collegiate victory. He made 10 saves in 79 minutes, after junior
Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) played the first 11 minutes. Freshman keeper Jeff Paer (Fair Lawn, N.J.) made two saves in the loss.
Wheaton held a 19-8 edge in shots. There were a total of seven yellow cards issued.
Colby-Sawyer will host its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tilt on Wednesday at 4:00 pm against New England College. Wheaton travels to Southern Vermont tomorrow for a 1:00 pm contest.
