NASSAU, BAHAMAS – January, 5, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell to Skidmore, 58-40 in their final contest of the 2011 Bahamas Goombay Shootout at the Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Skidmore improves to 4-5, while Colby-Sawyer dips to 4-6. The Chargers return to States to open The Commonwealth Coast Conference season against Regis on Saturday in New London at 1:00 pm.
Skidmore and Colby-Sawyer struggled shooting in the first half and combined for 27%. The Thoroughbreds held a slim 15-12 lead with five minutes to play in the first half when Colby-Sawyer went on a 7-2 run to finish the frame with a 19-17 lead.
Colby-Sawyer turned 13 first half Skidmore turnovers into 13 points and held a 10-2 edge in the paint.
The second half began with a flurry of offense and surpassed the first half total of 36 points after only 10 minutes in the second. After a pair of free throws by sophomore
Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) gave the Chargers a four point lead, Skidmore's Michela (Fort Johnson, N.Y.) made consecutive three pointers to put the Thoroughbreds on top 23-21.
Skidmore slowly built a cushion as they took control of the paint and caused 11 Colby-Sawyer turnovers. They shot 53% from the floor and from beyond the arc in the second half.
The Thoroughbreds had a 42-27 edge in rebounds and received 20 points from their bench en route to the 58-40 victory.
Skidmore sophomore Logan Frederick (Arlington, Va.) led all scorers with 18 points on 6-10 shooting. Junior Megan Gaugler (Amsterdam, N.Y.) chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Sophomore
Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) led the Chargers with 14 points, while Bullett added seven points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Gaugler and Frederick of Skidmore and DeSanty of Colby-Sawyer were named to the All-Tournament team.
