CASTLETON, Vt. - September 5, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to Castleton State, 6-1 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Chargers dip to 0-2 to open the season, while the Spartans improve to 1-1.
Castleton took a 2-0 lead after a pair of goals from Josh Costa in a five minute span early in the first half and never looked back. Colby-Sawer cut the deficit in half in the 20th minute when junior
Derek Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) scored off a free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box.
The Spartans responded less than two minutes later on Josh Costa's third goal of the contest. Castleton held a 3-1 lead at the half.
Twelve minutes into the second half, the Spartans added a fourth goal and then a fifth five minutes later. The final goal of the contest came in the 63rd minute and it was Josh Costa's fourth tally of the game.
The Spartans held a 19-6 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Chargers will play their third straight away contest to open the season on Saturday. The team will travel to Anna Maria for The Commonwealth Coast Conference season opener.
