PAXTON, Mass. - September 11, 2010 - Driven by
Derek Veilleux's (Winslow, Maine) second half score, the Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS, 1-0, during The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both clubs. With the win, Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-2 (1-0 TCCC), while Anna Maria now falls to 0-3 (0-1 TCCC) on the year.
The first-half was evenly played by both teams, as the Chargers outshot the AMCATS by a slight 9-6 margin, and each earned one corner kick attempt.
Will Berry (Berlin, Vermont) made four saves for the visitors while Mike Dandurand added two saves to keep the game scoreless heading into intermission.
The Chargers turned up the heat in the second frame, firing 15 shots, while Anna Maria blasted eight of their own.
Colby-Sawyer's persistence paid off, as the Chargers broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute on Veilleux's goal, which was set-up by
Drew Pehoviak's (Monson, Mass.) nice assist.
AMC goalkeeper Mike Dandurand played excellent in the losing effort, finishing with 12 saves, while his counterpart,
Will Berry, was equally as good, adding 11 saves in the shutout win.
Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Sunday at Brandeis University at 3:00 PM while Anna Maria travels to Becker College Thursday at 4:00 PM.
