Women's Basketball Opens Season with 76-56 Win at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - November 17, 2010 - Sophomore Taylor DeSanty scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team to a 76-56 victory over Norwich on Wednesday evening. The Chargers begin the 2010-11 season with a 1-0 record, while Norwich drops its second game of the year and falls to 0-2.

The Chargers held the Cadets to 16 first half points and 29.2% shooting for the game. In addition to Colby-Sawyer's seven three pointers, the Chargers had a 42-10 edge in points in the paint.

DeSanty made 5-of-9 3-pointers and tied a career-high with seven rebounds. She also added four assists and four steals. Sophomore Sammi Lehr nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Cailin Bullett flirted with a triple-double after tallying a career-high 10 assists, eight points and seven rebounds.

For the Cadets, seniors Christine Daniels and Karissa Doyon led Norwich in points for the second straight game, with 13 and 14 respectively. Sophomore Jessalyn Sweeney recorded seven boards, while Daniels earned a double-double by rounding out her night with 14 rebounds. Doyon was also good for four assists and four steals against Colby-Sawyer.

The Chargers host Clarkson at 6:00 pm on Friday night in the opening game of the 2010 Colby-Sawyer Tip-Off tournament. The team will then play either Westfield or Suffolk on Saturday afternoon.
