HENNIKER, N.H. - October 20, 2010 - The New England College men's soccer team tied in-state conference rival Colby-Sawyer 2-2 after battling through two scoreless overtimes in Henniker Wednesday afternoon.
With the tie the Pilgrims move to 7-8-1 overall and 4-6-1 in TCCC play, while the Chargers move to 7-7-2 on the season and 6-3-2 in the conference.
The Pilgrims started the scoring early as David Fernandes (Westbrook, Conn.) recorded his first collegiate goal floating in a shot over Charger keeper
Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) in the 20th minute.
The two teams would battle through the remainder of the first half and much of the second half scoreless before Colby-Sawyer's
Cooper McNealus (Saxtons River, Vt.) headed in a pass from
Kevin Flaherty (Wilmington, Mass.) in the 62nd minute knotting the game at 1-1. The goal was the first collegiate tally for McNealus.
NEC would be quick to regain the lead as Zak Harris (Benninston, Vt.) responded with his second goal of the season assisted by Aaron Kolb (New Durham, N.H.) just three minutes later.
Colby-Sawyer's
Derek Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) would come through with the game-tying goal with just 5:12 remaining in regulation as he would sneak in a shot past Pilgrim keeper Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.).
Both teams would garner a shot on goal in the first overtime. NEC would have the best scoring opportunity in the second overtime as Kolb would have a shot hit the crossbar in the 106th minute.
The Chargers finished the game with the slight 16-14 advantage in shots.

New England College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they host conference opponent Gordon College. Colby-Sawyer will also take the field Saturday as they host conference foe Regis College.
