Box Score
NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 12, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team defeated Anna Maria 5-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon in a TCCC opener for both teams. The Chargers improve to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in TCCC play. Anna Maria falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Sophomore Liz Allen (Holden, Mass.) led the Chargers with two goals.
Colby-Sawyer got on the scoreboard first nine minutes into the first half when senior Laura Sansoucie (Haverhill, Mass.) sent a cross into the box finding the foot of sophomore Sam Rober (Bedford, Mass.). Rober found the back of the net for her first tally of the season.
Twenty minutes later the Chargers widened their lead with three goals in the span of two and a half minutes. Sophomore Liz Allen scored in the 31st minute with her first goal of the game. Freshman Ashley Reis (Peterborough, N.H.) scored for the second straight game when fellow freshman Emily Brown (Rye, N.H.) split the defense with a perfect pass. Sansoucie was involved with another scoring chance in the 34th minute when she again crossed a ball into the box finding freshman Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) who shot the ball past the keeper.
Allen fired in a rebound in the 70th minute after Reis took a shot at the Anna Maria goalkeeper. Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) was unable to squeeze the ball in the wet conditions and Allen took advantage putting the deflection in the back of the net for the second time in the game.
Ruggeri faced 23 shots from the Chargers and saved 18 in the loss. Colby-Sawyer freshman Shalyn Spencer (Natick, Mass.) recorded her second straight shutout and stopped the only shot that she faced. The Chargers have not allowed a goal in the last four contests after allowing three in the first match.
Colby-Sawyer will take a brief break from TCCC action with a non-conference match at home against Plymouth State on Tuesday, September 15. The AMCATS will also be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Bay Path College.
