CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - November 16, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated the New England Collegiate Conference preseason favorites Lesley Lynx, 81-65 on Monday evening. Freshman
Cailin Bullett led all Chargers with 19 points including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Early in the game both teams battled back-and-forth, exchanging the lead a number of times. The Chargers, however, went on an 8-3 run to end the first half and took a nine point lead going into halftime.
With a 60-47 lead and 12:43 remaining in the game, Colby-Sawyer went on an 11-0 run to put the Lynx in an insurmountable hole and walked away with their first victory of the season.
Senior
Terri Duffy recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Duffy was one of several Colby-Sawyer players who were solid from the free throw line as she made 4-of-5 attempts. As a team, the Chargers were 87.0% from the charity stripe.
Double-digit points were also scored by
Maggie Rossi with 16 and
Amy Hebert with 14 points. Rossi dished out seven assists in the game.
Lesley's Hailee Lowe came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points but it was not enough as Colby-Sawyer had four players in double figures in victory.
The Lynx received double-figures from Kaitlyn Wechsler and Brianne Caira who had 16 and 12 points, respectively. Caira notably added nine rebounds and three blocks in the loss.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, November 21 with a game against St. John Fisher at 6:00 pm. The team will then play Elmira College on Sunday at noon. Both games will be played at the Skidmore Tournament.
