NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 17, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team won its fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Anna Maria 86-55. The win propels the Chargers to a 10-3 overall record and a 3-0 TCCC record. Ann Maria falls to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in TCCC action.
The first half featured hot shooting from both teams, but the Chargers held the advantage due to their shooting from three-point land. Colby-Sawyer knocked down six of 13 treys in the first half to take a 42-36 lead into the locker room. Freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) led Colby-Sawyer in the first frame with 11 points. Anna Maria sophomore Tyler Washington (Milford, Mass.) led all players with 12 points, including 7-8 from the free-throw line.
The second half saw the Chargers' offense continue to stay hot while the AMCATS offense could not reproduce their first-half production. Colby-Sawyer's defense dug in and made Anna Maria take some contested shots and kept them to a 20.8 second half field goal percentage. The Chargers, led by senior Duncan Szeliga's (Newmarket, N.H.) 13 second half points, shot an impressive 57.7% from the field and 44.4% from beyond the arc.
Szeliga finished with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Zach McBey (Franklin, N.H.) poured in a career-high 16 points on 7-10 shooting. Junior Andrew Ferreira (New London, N.H.) added 15 points and four rebounds. Bardaglio, who was the fourth Chargers in double-figures, tallied 14 points on 5-9 shooting.
For the AMCATS, Washington finished with a team-high 15 points. Freshman Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, R.I.) had a solid game with seven points and six rebounds.
The Chargers will host Curry on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.
