Castleton, Vt. - January 15, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team took a break from TCCC action to travel to Castleton, on Thursday night. The Chargers defeated the Spartans 103-68, to improve to 9-3 overall. Castleton falls to 1-11.
Castleton jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Seth Harrington lay-up off the opening tip, but it was all Colby-Sawyer from that point on, as the Chargers used a 14-2 run over the next 3:21 to take the lead for good.
The Chargers led by as many as 21 during the first half, before settling in to a 53-36 lead at intermission. Freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) scored 11 first-half points as Colby-Sawyer sizzled from the field making 20-of-37 (54.1%) field goals and 7-of-11 (63.6%) from beyond the three-point stripe.
The 9-3 Chargers tallied 38 points in the paint and received 43 points off its bench. Bardaglio led four Chargers in double figures with 17 on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 4-for-6 performance from three-point land. Joining Bardaglio in double figures were senior Andrew Cousins (South Portland, Maine) and freshman James Tobin (Brookline, N.H.) with 15 each, and junior Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) with 13.
Kevin Cayea led Castleton with 11 points and five assists, while Marcus added 10 points and eight rebounds for the 1-11 Spartans.
Colby-Sawyer will host Anna Maria College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
