NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team took on Wentworth Institute of Technology and battled to a 1-1 deadlock in the home opener at Kelsey Field.

Wentworth struck immediately out of the opening kickoff, breaking the ice just 2:00 into the match when David Lemus converted a feed from Zachary Bergin to put the visitors up 1-0.

Colby-Sawyer responded by ramping up the pressure, generating 13 shots in the opening 45 minutes and forcing Leopards goalkeeper Kieran Gorgenyi into seven first-half saves.

The Chargers' offensive persistence broke through in the 30th minute. Junior Colin Riley-Perec (Plymouth, Mass.) slipped a pass to Sophomore Landon Blanco (Boca Raton, Fla.) off a free kick, who slotted home his first goal of the season at 29:01 to level the match at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The second half saw Wentworth push forward aggressively with 17 shots, but Junior goalkeeper Evan Whalen (Barrington, N.H.) stood tall in the net. Whalen turned aside all 10 shots on target he faced in the final 45 minutes to keep the Leopards off the board and preserve the 1-1 draw.

Blanco netted his first goal of the year, putting all three of his shot attempts on target.

Riley-Perec picked up his first assist of the season while leading the Chargers with four shots (two on frame).

Whalen put together a standout performance across the full 90 minutes, tallying a season-high 11 saves on 12 shots on target.

Senior Kaden Lewis (Lunenburg, Mass.) put both of his attempts on goal, while Junior Coby Youngman (Bath, N.H.) and Sophomore Adrian Talbot (Merrimack, N.H.) each added shots on target.
