NINE CHARGERS SCORE IN WOMEN'S LACROSSE WIN OVER ALBERTUS MAGNUS

New Haven, CT – On Saturday, the Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team recorded their first shutout since 2019 in a GNAC game at Albertus Magnus. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • The Chargers started the game off quickly as Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ) scored the first goal of the game for Colby-Sawyer about 90 seconds into the game from Elena Bronson (Monkton, VT). A minute later, Madeline Knight (Pownal, ME) assisted Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ) for the second Charger goal of the game. Vignola and Grace Joly (Windham, ME) both scored to put the Chargers up 4-0. Joly assisted Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, NH) and Vignola to score the 5th and 6th Charger goals of the game. Joly, Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, N.H.), and Ponzini all scored another with just over four minutes left in the quarter. Joly scored another goal to put the Chargers up 10-0 after the first quarter. Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, VT) and Bronson each scored in the first six minutes of the second quarter. Knight, Ponzini, and Joly capped off the second half scoring for the Chargers. The Chargers were on 15 goals after the first half. 

  • Vignola scored the first Colby-Sawyer goal of the second half. Sophie Pedro (Scituate, RI) assisted Anika Jenkins (Tyngsboro, MA) with 9:27 to go in the third quarter. 

  • In the fourth quarter, Joly assisted Allison Linscott's (Pembroke, MA) first career collegiate goal. Joly scored with eight minutes left in the game. Jenkins scored the final goal of the game for the Chargers with about five minutes left to play. The Chargers won the game 20-0.  

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Joly scored a career-high five goals and recorded a career-high three assists. 

  • Vignola scored four goals on Saturday. 

  • Ponzini ended the game on three goals and three ground balls. 

  • Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, ME) recorded three ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

  • Bethany Rose (Andover, MA) and Addison Glavin (Andover, MA) both contributed in goal for the Chargers' first shutout since 2019. 

  • The Chargers collectively picked up 23 ground balls.

The Chargers will next face Vermont State University Castleton on Wednesday in Castleton, Vermont at 4pm.
