Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WOMEN'S LACROSSE IMPROVES TO 5-0 AFTER WIN OVER CASTLETON

Castleton, VT – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team traveled to Vermont State University Castleton on Wednesday. The Chargers scored 20 goals and improved to 5-0 on the season. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Madeline Knight (Pownal, ME) scored the first goal of the game for the Chargers inside the first minute. Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, NH) set up Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, NH) for the second Charger goal of the game about two minutes later. Grace Joly (Windham, ME), Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, VT), Ponzini, Elena Bronson (Monkton, VT), and Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ) all scored unassisted goals to put the Chargers up 7-0 after the first quarter. 

  • Almost five minutes into the second quarter, Sophie Pedro (Scituate, RI) assisted Bronson's second goal of the game. About a minute later, Vignola scored off a Bronson assist. Bronson followed the assist by scoring her third of the game. Before the end of the half, Bronson would assist Vignola.  

  • Megan Culp scored for the Spartans in the 3rd quarter. Finlayson added two more goals for the Chargers, the second of which was assisted by Bronson. Culp assisted a Taylor Tallmadge goal for the Spartans with 6:27 left in the 3rd. Vignola, Finlayson, and Joly each scored a goal before the end of the quarter for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • The 4th quarter started with a goal from Joly in the first three minutes. Phoebe Loomis scored a Spartan goal with 7:41 to go in the game. Bronson assisted a goal from Pedro for the Chargers. In the last five minutes of the game, Bronson and Joly each scored a goal. The Chargers won the game 20-3. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Bronson scored a career-high eight points. Bronson scored four goals and recorded four assists. 

  • Vignola and Joly each scored four goals. 

  • Finlayson scored three goals and recorded one assist on Wednesday. 

  • Culp scored a goal and recorded an assist for the Spartans. 

  • The Chargers picked up 23 ground balls. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will return to Sally Shaw Veitch Field on Saturday when they play Elms at 12pm for a GNAC conference matchup.
