BASEBALL ENDS SPRING TRIP AGAINST THE APPRENTICE SCHOOL

Myrtle Beach, SC – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team played their last game in Myrtle Beach on Thursday against Newport News Apprentice School to round out their spring trip. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Mike Hogan (Piermont, NH) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Brayden Hayes was the starting pitcher for the Builders. 

  • In the top of the 1st inning, Seth Harrison grounded out, and Nate Yeary scored on the play. Yeary's run put the Builders up 1-0. Harrison hit a 2 RBI single in the 3rd to make it a 3-0 lead for the Builders. Later in the inning, Isaac McAllister hit an RBI single, and Justin Bradshaw had a 2 RBI single. The Builders led 6-0 after the top of the 3rd. 

  • Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) stole home in the bottom of the 4th to give the Chargers their first run of the game. Later in the inning, Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) hit an RBI double to score the second Charger run of the game. 

  • In the top of the 7th, Landon Turner hit an RBI single and later scored a run as well. The Builders led 8-2 after the top of the 7th. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) got a hit that scored Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) to make it an 8-3 ball game. Newport News Apprentice School won the game 8-3. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Hogan threw 100 pitches in a season-high of 7.0 innings of pitching. The 8th inning saw Ryan Kane (Franklin, MA) pitch for the Chargers, where Kane threw a strikeout. Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) pitched the 9th inning for Colby-Sawyer. 

  • Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) was 2-4 from the plate. Dennis has had hits in each of the last five games played. Staffier's double was his third of the season. 

  • McAllister was 3-5 from the plate for the Builders. 

  • This was the last game of the Chargers' trip to Myrtle Beach. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will begin GNAC conference play on Sunday at Dean College for a doubleheader.
