BASEBALL FALLS TO HOBART COLLEGE ON DAY FOUR OF SPRING TRIP

Myrtle Beach, SC – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team played Hobart College on Tuesday during the spring trip at the Ripken Complex in Myrtle Beach. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Rex Hill (Andover, VT) was the Chargers' starting pitcher, and Johnny Hill was the starting pitcher for the Statesmen. 

  • The Statesmen got a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning after a sac fly from Cole Conte. In the next inning, Aidan Davenport hit a grand slam for Hobart to put the Statesmen up 5-0. The Chargers responded in the same inning. Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) hit a single into left field that scored Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) for the first Charger run of the day. In the next at bat, Nick Johnson (Manchester, NJ) stepped up and put the ball into play. Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) scored on the play. Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) stepped up next and put the ball into play that allowed Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) to score. The Statesmen led 5-3 after the 3rd inning. 

  • In the 5th inning, Connor Schmiedlin and Conte hit RBIs that put the Statesmen ahead by five runs. In the 7th inning, Quinn Dashevsky and Jack Byrnes earned RBIs for Hobart to make it an 11-3 ball game. The Statesmen won the game 11-3. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Rex Hill pitched in his first start of the season. Connor Fowler (Hampton Falls, NH) made his first appearance on the mound for the Chargers, giving up no runs in 1.2 innings of pitching. Ryan Kane (Franklin, MA) pitched a career-high three innings on Tuesday. Colby Russell (Dover, NH) pitched the 8th and 9th innings for the Chargers, giving up no runs. 

  • Dennis had two hits on Tuesday, putting his season batting average at .371. Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) was 1-3 from the plate, as his batting average is .300 this season.  

  • Schmiedlin had three hits for the Statesmen on Tuesday. 

  • The Chargers combined for eight hits. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers are back at it on Wednesday as they play Western Connecticut State at 9am and Mount Aloysius at 12pm.
